Village life map

Where no ACRE Network member shows

If you run a village hall or a rural group

This is a map, not an adviser, and nobody here can advise you. Your county’s ACRE Network member can — find it under Find a member.

In 69 of the 152 counties and unitary authorities of England, neither record shows an ACRE Network member. 306,102 people in rural neighbourhoods live in them. 53 of those areas have none of the people in rural neighbourhoods counted, and are not listed below. Before either sentence is quoted anywhere, read the next one.

What this does not mean

It does not mean rural communities there have no support. Councils, community foundations, local infrastructure bodies and other charities all work with villages, and a member can work beyond the areas it records. What it means is narrow: no member on ACRE’s public map gives an address there, and no member charity records the area as one it works in.

How presence was counted

  • An address — an ACRE Network member on ACRE’s map gives one in the area: 36 areas.
  • The register — a member charity tells the Charity Commission it operates there: 81 areas.

Either one counts. A charity that records a whole region or country is not counted as present in any one area of it, because a charity that says it works everywhere says nothing about a particular place.

What else to know

  • The count of people in rural neighbourhoods comes from ONS Rural Urban Classification 2021 (LSOA) x the mid-2022 population in the English indices of deprivation 2025. It is summed over each area’s own neighbourhoods, for England only.
