Where no NAVCA member shows
This is a map, not a service, and nobody here can give advice or funding. Your local council for voluntary service or volunteer centre is the place to start — find the one for your area under Find a member.
In 6 of the 152 counties and unitary authorities of England, neither record shows a NAVCA member. 2,864 local charities name them on the register. Before either sentence is quoted anywhere, read the next one.
It does not mean charities and groups there have no local support. Councils, community foundations, other infrastructure bodies and national networks all support local groups, and neither record here would show them. What it means is narrow: no member on NAVCA’s public map gives an address there, and no member charity records the area as one it works in. Both records can miss a member that is really there.
How presence was counted
- An address — a NAVCA member on NAVCA’s member map gives one in the area: 120 areas.
- The register — a member charity tells the Charity Commission it operates there: 142 areas.
Either one counts. A charity that records a whole region or country is not counted as present in any one area of it, because a charity that says it works everywhere says nothing about a particular place.
Recorded as working everywhere
Nine of the network’s charities tell the register only that they work throughout a region or nation, so the register places them nowhere and they count only where they give an address. Where one of them really covers an area, this page cannot see it:
- CB Plus — recorded as “Throughout England”
- Community Power — recorded as “Throughout England And Wales”
- HEY Smile Foundation — recorded as “Throughout England And Wales”
- High Trees Community Development Trust — recorded as “Throughout London”
- London Plus — recorded as “Throughout London”
- Voluntary Action Sheffield (VAS) — recorded as “Throughout England”
- Voluntary Nofolk — recorded as “Throughout England”
- Voluntary Organisations’ Network North East (VONNE) — recorded as “Throughout England”
- Voluntary Sector North West (VSNW) — recorded as “Throughout England”

Wales
NAVCA’s members are in England. Wales has its own county voluntary councils, which are not NAVCA members, so Wales is not counted here at all rather than counted as having none.
What else to know
- The count of local charities is from the Charity Commission’s register as extracted on 22 September 2026. A charity naming two council areas is counted in each, so the areas add up to more than the 109,450 distinct charities.
