Where no Dyslexia Network charity records working
This is a map, not an assessment, and nobody here can advise you. For a child, the place to start is their school. A local dyslexia association can help too — find yours under Find a charity.
In 104 of the 152 counties and unitary authorities of England, neither record shows a Dyslexia Network charity. 112,087 pupils with a specific learning difficulty go to school in them. Before either sentence is quoted anywhere, read the next one.
It does not mean there is no dyslexia support there. Schools must support pupils with special educational needs, councils publish what is available locally, and national charities and helplines serve everyone; a local association can also work beyond the areas it records. What it means is narrow: no charity on the BDA’s network page records the area, on the Charity Commission register, as one it works in.
How presence was counted
- An address — a Dyslexia Network charity on the BDA’s network page gives one in the area: 0 areas.
- The register — a network charity tells the Charity Commission it operates there: 48 areas.
Either one counts. A charity that records a whole region or country is not counted as present in any one area of it, because a charity that says it works everywhere says nothing about a particular place.
Recorded as working everywhere
Six of the network’s charities tell the register only that they work throughout a region or nation, so the register places them nowhere and they count only where they give an address. Where one of them really covers an area, this page cannot see it:
- Accessible Learning Foundation — recorded as “Throughout England And Wales”
- Adult Dyslexia Centre — recorded as “Throughout England And Wales”
- DA of London — recorded as “Throughout London”
- Dyslescia Cymru | Wales Dyslexia — recorded as “Throughout Wales”
- The Dyslexia Association — recorded as “Throughout England”
- The Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity — recorded as “Throughout England”

Wales
The BDA’s page also lists charities for Wales and Scotland. Special educational needs are counted differently there, so neither is in this map.
What else to know
- The count of pupils with a specific learning difficulty comes from Department for Education, Special educational needs in England, January 2026 (pupils whose primary type of need is specific learning difficulty, with an EHC plan or SEN support). It is summed over each area’s own schools, for England only.
- The register is the only record here. The BDA’s page gives each charity’s postcode district, not its address, so no charity is placed by address. An association that works in an area without telling the Charity Commission so does not show.
